It is best to perform asanas on an empty stomach. You can have a cup of tea or coffee, chocolate (with no added sugar). It can be practiced about an hour after a very light meal.
-
Avoid heavy meals before class, in case you wait at least 4 hours.
Recommended foods, up to 2 hours before the practice:
-
dried fruits, such as almonds or walnuts, and pumpkin or sunflower seeds, which provide immediate energy
-
raisins and le prunes provide energy, vitamins and minerals
-
cereals such as oats o barley, perhaps accompanied by a handful of red fruits to make them tastier, which are also a source of energy
If you are on an empty stomach, up to half an hour before of the same:
-
natural fruit juices, smoothies and centrifuges, also ideal for hydrating tissues, as they contain antioxidants and vitamins ( 100% fruit )
-
some raw cocoa beans, rich in magnesium
-
vegetable yoghurt (no added sugar)
-
1 banana, rich in potassium, which helps to avoid cramps
After
It is recommended to eat half an hour after finishing the asanas.
Time
The best hours for practicing the asanas are early in the morning or late in the evening.
In the morning the asanas do not succeed easily because the body is rigid; on the contrary, the mind is still fresh. In the evening, the body moves more freely. Morning practice has positive effects on the performance of one's work. Evening practice eliminates the fatigue and tension of the day, bringing calmness and freshness.
For the female gender
-
Perios: during the menstrual period it is good to avoid inverted asanas and sarvangasana ( the candle pose ) if you do not have a heavy flow and feel good, you can practice. In some schools of yoga it is recommended not to practice during the first 2 days of your period.
-
Pregnancy: During the first 3 months of pregnancy all asanas can be performed, in the first month after delivery no asanas should be practiced.
Benefit of the practice
Practice brings lightness and well-being in both body and mind, and a feeling of Oneness between mind + body + spirit. Continuous and consistent practice will bring benefits in everyday life, from nutrition to character, and there will be a new rebirth.
Do you have to be flexible to do yoga?
Many, I am told, " I am not flexible at all, I cannot do yoga."
You will be surprised to know that flexibility is not a pre-requisite of Yoga , it is one of the benefits you will get, with constant practice and since mind and body are connected, a flexible body will have a more flexible mind.
